Half Year Report 2025

Data-driven insights into the trends shaping modern publishing.
Vitec Visiolink supports one of Europe’s most comprehensive publishing portfolios, representing more than 2,400 newspapers and magazines.

This half-year report presents key insights across three focus areas: User Engagement, Commercial Performance, and Content Consumption. Together, these perspectives reveal how digital publishing continues to evolve across platforms and formats.

User Engagement

Mobile now accounts for 67% of total user reach, confirming its role as the dominant access point for digital news.
At the same time, tablets — despite a smaller audience — continue to deliver exceptionally strong engagement levels, highlighting the importance of optimised multi-device experiences.

Commercial Performance

The report examines advertising effectiveness within the ePaper, including Hotspots and Interstitials. The findings show consistently high click-through rates, underlining the strong commercial potential of well-integrated digital advertising formats.

Content Consumption & Audio Audio

features such as podcasts and text-to-speech continue to stand out. Platforms offering audio see longer session durations and significantly higher interaction levels compared to those without. The data confirms that audio is not an add-on — it is becoming a core part of the modern digital news experience.

Where Value Is Created

Across engagement, monetisation and content formats, the data provides a clear picture of where user value is created — and where the greatest opportunities for growth lie.

Methodological Considerations

This report is based on data collected through Vitec Visiolink’s ePaper apps and web solutions, primarily via Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

While a small number of customers use alternative tracking systems, the dataset provides a representative view of overall user behaviour.

The analysis covers a six-month period in 2025 to ensure reliability and minimise short-term fluctuations. Where relevant, outliers have been removed and clearly documented. A glossary of domain-specific terminology is included at the end of the report.
